February 22nd, 2024 - Trim

Image
February 22nd, 2024 - Trim When the previous owner shot the car with white primer, there was so much overspray on the windows, bumper and trim pieces. I removed the worst trim pieces, cleaned them up as much as possible and repainted them. They are not perfect or completely correct, but this is what I am going to use at this time. Before Taped After

February 19th, 2024 - Color Match

February 19th, 2024 - Color Match The previous owner painter sections on the car with white primer. Since there was little to no body work done before the white was applied, it is all going to be striped off anyway, so it was time to have the car be all one similar shade. This looks so much better.

February 3rd, 2024 - New Shoes

February 3rd, 2024 - New Shoes The tires that were on the Capri when I got it were in pretty poor condition. I drove on them for a bit, but was not comfortable with it. It was time for some new tires. I went to Discount Tires and bought an inexpensive set but they are so much better! They look pretty good on the car, too

January 28th, 2024 - Wheels

January 28th, 2024 - Restoring the Wheels The first real cosmetic update was started today. It was time to restore the wheels. The wheels started out rather grungy with some light rust, but no damage I started out by painting the wheels with a base coat of silver After taping them off(whew, what a job!) I shot them with gloss black. The end result was pretty good.

November 11th, 2023 - It's Car Show Time My Capri had it's public unveiling today at the Westwing Classic Car Show ( www.westwingclassic.com ) in Peoria, AZ. This is a great show in the Phoenix NW valley. There was definitely a lot of interest of interest! It was fun displaying next to my wife's 1960 Corvair ( www.cathyscorvair.com ) and sister-in-law's 1940 Buick Special.

November 8th, 2023 Mirrors I ordered some mirrors from Amazon since all of the mirrors on the car were bad. The rear view is a suction cup mount. The exterior mirrors really don't fit the character of the car, but they are functional.

November 7th, 2023 Interior Bits I fit the carpet as well as I could. It's not meant for this car and has been cut up by the previous owner. I put it in there and steamed it as well as I could. I also added the console back in and popped holes for the seats and seat belts. The covers don't fit as well as hoped but they were quite inexpensive. They are an interim step in the process. I have been trying to diagnose a problem with the electric gauges not working. I took the voltage regulator off of the donor instrument cluster, hoping that would fix it. Nope. I'll keep digging. I pulled the instrument voltage regulator out to see if this was the problem. It appears to work as designed. Onward and upward.
